Six Senses Laamu - Maldives
An out of the ordinary resort. It really is difficult to know where to start reviewing a stay at Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives, without reaching for superlative after superlative.
The main thing we keep coming back to is the attention to detail that forms the overall experience. From the moment you arrive. Think beautiful Scandinavian designed wood-villas, with spaces flowing elegantly out to the ocean. Think a glass floor window in the bathroom to gaze at the fish, think the freedom of not wearing shoes for one moment you entire stay, think the relaxation of pedalling your way through the jungle to and from your room each day. It really does all add up to one of the most memorable holiday experience you will ever have and if you are even considering pushing the boat out and going to this resort my only advice would be: do it and book yourself the water villa with pool! You will not be disappointed and you will thank yourself for it.
What makes Six Senses Laamu an even more amazing world-class five star resort is their continuous effort towards sustainability. A true leader in the eco-luxury resort industry, Six Senses Laamu takes protection of the environment and communities seriously. The water you drink on the island is produced by desalination and served in glass bottle, they actively try to reduce waste (which is a terrible issue in the Maldives), they have their own organic garden used by the restaurants on the island where they grow organic herbs, vegetables, lettuce..., the bathroom is filled with natural shampoo, conditioner, body cream, insect repellent (all made with lemongrass from the garden), without forgetting the fantastic marine team conducting research and promoting education and awareness of the marine environment to the guests.
We were very happy to chose a resort that cares about our planet and look after the local communities.

Hot tips:
From the moment you step into the boat from Kadhdhoo Airport you will be requested to remove your shoes and never put them back until the end of your stay. Donβt bother packing shoes and stay barefoot, itβs amazing feeling to ground with our planet
Bring reef-safe sunscreen
Make sure to book restaurants such as Leaf and Zen in advance as these are a must and booking is essential. Leaf is the Mediterranean style restaurant and Zen the Japanese restaurant
Donβt commit to too many activities: the level of relaxation you can achieve here is amazing, the activities available are certainly one of the main advantages of Six Senses as a resort, but find your own balance
Bring books! Relaxing on the deck of the villa in the morning with a good book is amazing
Buy a full-face snorkelling masks (you can borrow standard snorkel gear from the resort for free, but the full face masks offer much better comfort and a nicer experience - you wonβt regret it!)
Make the most of the expertise of the marine biologists if you are interested in learning: there is so much information on hand
The wines by the glass are actually excellent (but make sure it is chilled to your liking)
Head to the end of one of the jetties for awesome photos
If you like your travel photos, make the most of the clear blue sky days
Itβs a tropical island, so the weather is frequently changing and variable, rain is common at certain times of year but donβt let this put you off, the resort is well set up to cope and it even adds to the atmosphere
The window seat on the small plane from Male to Kadhdoo offers excellent views of the atols
